Hazelwood now has a defibrillator!

Sudden cardiac arrest takes 350,000 lives a year in the US. That is a staggering 117 times the number of people killed on September 11th. 75% of the time the cardiac arrest happens outside of the hospital and %95 of those people die. The key to survival requires early defibrillation with an Automated External Defibrillator ( AED) and CPR. AED’s are designed for laypeople or first responders to use to shock the heart back into a normal rhythm. They are very user friendly and will only work deliver a shock if the victim does not have a life sustaining heartbeat. We are happy to announce that Delta Epsilon has  acquired enough money through grants and donations to provide all Floyd County Schools an AED this year. We encourage all parents, staff, and students to be familiar with the AED unit in their school so that victims of sudden cardiac arrest in our community have a fighting chance of survival. Special thanks goes to the generous donations from the Horseshoe Foundation, the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, the Floyd Memorial Foundation, the Glotzbach family, the Rotary Club, and the general community!

Send a gift that means an automatic donation to the NEW ALBANY-FLOYD COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION! When you shop at any of over 700 participating online stores through iGive, a portion of each purchase comes back to us in the form of a donation check.
It’s free to you, free for us, and you pay the same (or less!) than you would by going directly to the store. Shopping online means no wasted gas and no more standing in long lines at the mall. And to all you smart shoppers; don’t miss iGive’s treasure-trove of coupons, sales and free shipping.
Save money, save time and send gifts that give twice. What could be better than that? You can help provide Teacher Grants, send students to Junior Achievement and fund Full Day Kindergarten.

Safe School Helpline… A toll-free hotline has been implemented as a way for students and adults to alert officials anonymously about information and tips regarding potential emergencies. Concerned parents and students with information regarding potential incidents of school-related violence may call  1-800-418-6423 ext. 359 or go to www.nafcs.k12.in.us and click on School Portal (top left).  The goal is to create better communications with students and staff members, thus making our schools safer.  Students, it's OK to tell someone if you suspect something unsafe will happen!

http://www.ala.org/ala/washoff/WOissues/techinttele/internetsafety/internetsafety.htm - American Library Association - Using the Internet safely has become one of today's most important issues, especially for parents. The ALA has long held that education and parental involvement are and have always been the best tools to keep kids safe online and to ensure that they can make the right decisions. The intent of this page is to be a one-stop source for many of the materials that ALA and its divisions have either created or published in regard to internet safety and education.

We also hope to help educate the public and law-makers on various Internet issues so that we may all have a voice in how the Internet is regulated and to be sure that the most innocent among us are protected while online.

http://www.getnetwise.org/ - The Internet is an increasingly important place to work, play and learn for both adults and children. At the same time, we are concerned about the risks we face online.  GetNetWise can help.
